It’s the time of year we’re thankful for our AC. There’s nothing much better than walking into a nice, chill house after being out in the summer heat. If you find that your system is not getting your home cool enough, there could be various reasons. It may be abnormally hot outside, or may be blocked filters or dirty coils, or even your thermostat. But, it might be that the system is low on refrigerant. There are some signs you can look out for to let you know that your refrigerant is running low and that it’s a good idea to call in a professional for air conditioner service.
Higher Utility Bills
An air conditioner that is low on refrigerant will have to be on longer in effort to cool your home. This results in higher utility bills. If you’ve noticed abnormally high bills it could be time to call someone in to check out your air conditioner.
Ice Buildup or Water
If you notice any ice on your exterior AC unit, there’s a probability that there’s problems. When you’re low on refrigerant, your system’s evaporator coil will get too cold and the humidity around your refrigerant line will freeze. This could lead to compressor problems. If your compressor becomes damaged, and it’s not under warranty, it’s could be more cost effective to restore the entire outside unit.
Your Home Isn’t Cool
If your air conditioner is taking longer than it typically does to cool your home or if it’s not getting to the temperature set on your thermostat, your best bet is to have your system checked out. There are a number of things that are possibly taking place that a technician would be able to pinpoint.
